Meet the SciComm Team

Ana María Perez-Hincapié

Coding Coach

she/her/ella

Coding Coach

Ana María Perez-Hincapié is a doctoral candidate at Colorado State University where she focuses on landscape evolution and tectonic geomorphology.

CoCo SciComm Team interviewed Verónica, our Coding Coach, to get insight into her motivation and purpose for teaching at CoCo Comunidad.

Q: What do you think is your contribution to the Comunidad?

A: I think my biggest contribution is that I am very curious and I like to learn a lot and I enjoy researching and solving problems. For me coding is like a game of puzzles and I want to keep learning through the tools that the program has and the needs of other members of the community.

Q: What made you decide to be involved in a program like CoCo Comunidad?

A: Learning to program was one of the great frustrations of my academic life. I was completely terrified and didn't even know where to start. Until being part of the 2023 version of the CoCo program gave me a lot of basics in coding and science communication that I use to this day. I discovered that not only was I not the only one who felt scared but that together in a community it is more fun and easier to learn and help others. I want many more people to start a process in these skills that will undoubtedly be very beneficial for their careers, I want to learn from others and be helpful to others in their learning.

Q: What kind of activities do you enjoy doing outside work?

A: I love knitting and embroidery, as well as languages. I am currently learning Italian and how to operate my sewing machine! I dream of a giant sewing workshop someday!
