Meet the Coding Trainers

Tamara Aranguiz, she/her

Coding Coach

Tamara Aranguiz is a Ph.D. student at the University of Washington, Seattle, US, under the Earth and Space Sciences Department. She explores Earth's surface deformations.

CoCo SciComm Team interviewed Tamara, one of our Coding Trainers, to get insight into her motivation and purpose for teaching at CoCo.

Q: What are some of the things you expect to learn from CoCo?

A: I'm excited to teach in English for the first time! I'm still a beginner in my programming journey, so I'm expecting to learn a lot from each other in the training sessions.

Q: What made you decide to be involved in a bilingual program such as CoCo?

A: I used to hate English because I didn't feel comfortable with my basic level to speak it, and the same happened with coding language, so I was avoiding it. Until one day, I decided to face both languages and made their space in my heart and brain. I want to share with other people that probably have the same experience as me and to proof that we can do it! CoCo is an amazing program to lower the barriers of the scientific language coming from a Spanish speaking country.

Q: What kind of activities do you enjoy doing outside work?

A: I like learning about design in general, I also play video games (and learn to design them as well). I'm a decent cook, and I enjoy trying new food as well.

We love Tamara's enthusiasm and energy to spread her joy in teaching and learning. You can follow Tamara's updates following her Twitter and xx accounts.
